digital imaging: introduction

The digital camera is radically changing the way photography and images are used, stored and reused.

photography ranges fromthe snap shot, 'aide memoire', part of our life blog

I was continually recording images that investigated the basic design elements that delighted my aesthetic and recorded memories. In doing so, communicating underlying themes of the variability of mood and temperament.

The combined or "stitched" panoramic images present multiple views in different seasons and times of day, each image is only a moment and part of a truth.

This folio explores the nature of digital photography and its role as a means of recording memory, and its immediacy as compared to traditional methods of presentation. Over the past 7 years I have developed systems for storage and reuse of images, while I explored how photography and maps could be published to a wider audience in a usable format.

Digital photography is a new media. Without the new tools, I would be floundering in tasks of repetition, manual ‘cut-n-paste’ and have explored the reuse of these images on new portable display devices using the technologies already available and future developments.
